My eyes had only been done with the buried suture method 3 times, and one side was in a state where it would sometimes come undone and sometimes not. They consistently said that if I did the buried suture method, it would come undone quickly. I didn’t have much time off, so I wanted to do the buried suture method again, but since everyone said no, I thought I’d just visit a few more of the places I had booked last and then choose.
Then I went for another consultation. The consultant also said buried sutures would be too much and recommended incision, saying their hospital’s swelling goes down in just 2 weeks? Most of the hospitals I had visited were in the mid-2 million to 3 million won range, but this place was 5.5 million won including VAT. I asked for 6-month interest-free installments, but they didn’t do that, so the interest was going out at something like 19%. I only found out at the end of the year, and I thought it was some loan-shark interest. If the card wasn’t eligible, they should have told me. I lost 600,000 won just in interest. They were the type to flatter you, distract you, and keep asking personal things.
The doctor consultation ended quickly. He said buried sutures also create scarring, and the more you do them, the more scarring remains, as much as with incision. While he was explaining incision, I asked whether buried sutures were possible too, and he said they were. Even when I said other hospitals all told me it would come undone quickly, he said incision was the right approach, but that doing buried sutures didn’t mean everything would necessarily come undone. He said he would make it pretty, that there was nothing to worry about, and that it seemed like it would go well. He said it would be fully possible if he set the line and removed eyelid fat. He was extremely confident, and since it was an eye-specialized hospital and the price was expensive, I think I trusted them, thinking there must be some special method. The consultant came back in, and when I asked how much it would be since it was buried sutures, she said the original price is the same whether it’s incision or buried sutures. She also said the price is the same for doing one side or both sides. Are other hospitals usually like that too? As far as I know, even for revision surgery, I heard incision and buried sutures have a price difference, because incision takes more time. Same for one side versus both sides too... I think I was somehow bewitched that day. Without knowing anything, I ended up having surgery right on the consultation day. I remember it ended really quickly.
As expected, after two months it went back to how it was, so I went for an AS consultation. The director said, “I never said it absolutely wouldn’t come undone,” and then again said that if I received AS with the buried suture method, it would come undone, which contradicted what he said at the first consultation. Then the consultant came in again and said they would do AS by incision for 5 million won, saying even that was a huge discount. I was pretty shocked. Later, I found out about this community, and it turned out they had charged me much higher than the actual quote price.
Still, the first quote I had with the consultant was for incision, and I changed to buried sutures, and since the result was like that as soon as the swelling went down, I thought AS by incision would be possible. But I can’t accept that if I received buried sutures, I can only receive AS by buried sutures.
As time passes, even the eye that wasn’t operated on is getting weaker, and now there isn’t much time left in the AS period, so I have to go for another consultation. But the completely changed atmosphere and pressure compared with the first time I went were so hard on me. They’ll probably tell me to do only buried sutures again like that time, but no matter how I think about it, it doesn’t seem right. I’m worried about what I should do.
