I had revision rhinoplasty in 2016, and starting in the summer of 2022, the silicone implant in my nose gradually began to show through and my nasal tip started collapsing, so last month I went back to the same hospital and had a third revision. I went in intending to have only the nasal tip done, but after the surgery, when I woke up from sedation, they said they had redone the nasal bridge too. (They didn’t tell me beforehand, and after the surgery they said they had inserted silicone, so I was honestly flustered, but I had no choice and paid extra for the silicone too..) Starting 3-4 days later, blood suddenly pooled inside my nose and it became very swollen. So the next day, we decided to do an open irrigation/washout. And when I woke up from sedation, they said the inflammation was so severe that they had removed the silicone. I had wanted them to avoid removing the silicone as much as possible because I had heard that if you suddenly remove silicone after having it in for over 10 years, contracture can occur. But when they told me they had removed it, I was so scared of contracture that I cried my eyes out.
And now it has been 2 weeks since the silicone was removed, and just as I expected, what I feared has happened. Contracture has started quickly. They prescribed Rizaben too, so I’ve been taking it continuously, but my nasal tip keeps lifting to the point that daily life feels impossible.
I keep trying to think of the worst-case scenario (so I’ll be less shocked, at least), and I’ve been searching for reviews, but the hospital only tells me that recovery speed and the speed of contracture progression differ depending on each person’s constitution. I’m so anxious, and I’m curious about how much further the contracture might progress, what I should do, and so on.. I want to know things like what the maximum extent of contracture could be going forward, and if recovery is possible, whether there have been cases like this, etc. Right now, it’s so hard for me to look in the mirror when I wake up in the morning.
I keep dreaming that my nose goes back to how it was. I feel like I’m going to develop depression. If anyone has had a case like mine, could you please share your experience..? Thank you.
