A clinic that ruined a face, found consultations bothersome, and ignored the patient with an incredibly rude attitude

A place near Apgujeong Station that doesn’t advertise much and where many people go for nose surgery by word of mouth. Please never get fat grafting done here. They have no aesthetic sense. More than 30 acquaintances had nose surgery at this clinic, and since they don’t advertise and many people went there for nose surgery by word of mouth, I knew the place. Fat grafting is something women often do together on the forehead, so I had seen cases where people did it along with nose surgery, and those turned out well. My younger sibling was interested in fat grafting, had also done nose surgery here, and we thought they would probably do it well, so after the consultation, they went straight into surgery. The result was asymmetry under both eyes (one side was filled all the way up to right below the eye, making it look unnatural, while the other side was filled only in the anterior cheek area, making the under-eye hollow look even deeper). The fat that should have been placed in the nasolabial fold was put along the lip line next to the philtrum. Overall, it is plainly visible that the procedure was done incorrectly with asymmetry on both sides (I’ve had a lot of plastic surgery and dermatologic procedures myself, so I can tell when I see it). The reason I’m writing this now is that my younger sibling was furious and hurt by the doctor’s extremely rude attitude at the clinic!! I want to make known that irresponsible, insincere attitude of the doctor!! (In the past, when I suffered for a year and a half after necrosis occurred on my face from a thread lift, I never posted anything like this, because the clinic and doctor paid enough attention, cared for me, and handled it properly. I understood, though I was upset, that procedures are done by humans and that a mistake had simply happened to me... and my relationship with the clinic was fine.) Below is my younger sibling’s writing. ------------------------------------ After having fat grafting to three areas: forehead, under-eyes, and nasolabial folds, as soon as I woke up from anesthesia, I could see that the fat under my eyes had been placed unevenly. In the first week, while I was still swollen, I went to the clinic for a follow-up and said the unevenness was severe. They said it could be because of swelling for now, so we should check after the swelling went down. After 2 weeks passed and the swelling went down, the area that had looked uneven under the eyes looked even more clearly uneven. On one side, the fat went high up to right below the eye, and on the other side, it was only placed beside the cheekbone, with no fat at all under the eye. When I touched it, on one side, the under-eye hollow that had been my concern had no noticeable change, to the point that I could feel no fat had gone in at all. On the other side, the area under the eye was swollen to an excessive-looking degree, and the imbalance was visible to the naked eye. For the nasolabial fold area, the hollow area next to the nose, which had been my concern, was not filled with fat. Instead, fat went into the wrong area above the lip, making it visibly protrude like a sulky cheek pouch, so I told the clinic, and they told me to visit again. On the day of the visit, I arrived about 30 minutes earlier than my appointment time and went in early, thinking I’d wait upstairs. The manager immediately told me to sit in the treatment-room chair, so I sat down, and she said she would bring the director. I said okay. A little later, the manager came back and said the director was eating, so please wait a bit. I said okay. About five minutes later, the director came in, and maybe because he was annoyed that his meal had been interrupted, he came in with a stiff expression and asked what the problem was, with his hand stuck in his pocket. From this point, his tone was fucking awful. I talked about the asymmetry of the fat under my eyes and also said I thought the fat in the nasolabial fold area had been placed incorrectly above my lip. After touching under my eyes, he admitted that one side seemed to have gone in too high. But he said that as the fat engrafted, even the part placed high could go down more than now, so we should wait and see. So I asked whether it wasn’t wrong in the first place that the fat had been placed unevenly, with one side having it and one side not having it. He said I was being too sensitive at week 3 and spoke as if I were the strange one (?) I said I had paid for surgery because under-eye hollowness was my concern, but instead it became asymmetrical, and on one side no fat went under the eye while only the cheekbone area got fat, making the hollowness look even worse. He sighed and said it was normal for fat not to go under the eyes, but regarding the opposite side where fat had gone up to under the eye, he did not acknowledge that it had been operated on incorrectly. In an irritated tone, he said he could provide radiofrequency treatment to make the fat disappear a little faster. Then I asked why, in the nasolabial fold area, fat had not gone into the area next to the nose that had been my concern and instead had gone above the wrong lip area, making it protrude. He touched it with his hand and said the fat may have moved, then asked back why I was saying that when it looked fine to him. I said that neither the under-eye area nor the nasolabial fold area had improved in the areas I was concerned about, and instead unevenness had appeared or fat had gone into areas that didn’t need fat. He sighed and said, then let’s talk while looking at the photos, and turned around as he was and went into the director’s room. When I followed him in too, he raised his voice as if dumbfounded, asking why I was coming in there. I said he had said we should talk while looking at the photos, and since he walked off without any separate guidance, I thought he meant for me to follow and came in. He sighed again and said, “Ah, then let’s just look here,” and put the before-and-after photos on the monitor and explained. Showing me my before photo, he said that even before surgery, I had more fat under one eye than the other, and that while the surgery did turn out uneven, my face originally had a problem too (?) For the nasolabial fold area, while comparing before-and-after photos, he said the original concern area doesn’t dramatically change all at once and told me not to expect too much (??) So I asked what happened with the part that was incorrectly placed above the lip, and he said, “It looks good to me, though?” (;;;) I had nothing to say, so I didn’t answer. Anyway, I asked again whether he was saying my under-eye fat was originally asymmetrical and that the protruding part above my lip in the nasolabial fold area was not a problem at all. He said yes. Then lastly, I asked what he would do about the surgery being done unevenly. He said he could do radiofrequency treatment, but even without it, since I’m male, a lot would disappear over time anyway. So I said I wouldn’t do it and left. As soon as I stepped out the door to go to the counter, I was startled by the sound of a door slamming shut, and when I turned around, it was the sound of the director’s office door closing. I was dumbfounded, so I asked the manager if the director was angry. She said she wasn’t sure and apologized. I asked whether his tone and behavior toward patients were normally like that. She apologized and said we could see after engraftment during the second surgery. I said I didn’t even want to entrust anesthesia to a director whose mood becomes his attitude like that, nor did I want to entrust my face to him. I said I wouldn’t receive the second surgery and asked whether a partial refund was possible. She said it wasn’t possible, so I just left. ------------------------ Listening to it made me even angrier. As for procedures, I know well by now that there can be some degree of mistakes, and that side effects are something you have to take into account. But isn’t that doctor’s behavior, making the patient feel embarrassed with a shameless and rude attitude while not even acknowledging the botched procedure, truly ill-mannered? Did he get dumped by his girlfriend the day before? Why is he taking out his irritation on a patient? Going in every week for radiofrequency treatment is not easy either. From the patient’s perspective, it is already infuriating to have to endure that kind of inconvenience because they couldn’t do the procedure properly. Right now my younger sibling says they have no intention of receiving laser treatment or a second procedure while looking at that doctor’s face. They said that if he behaves like that even during follow-up consultations, he seems like the type who would ruin their face if he touched it again. In the case of fat grafting, only the first session has been done, so we asked for a partial refund, but they say it is not possible.
