Because I had a bit of an underbite and facial asymmetry, I had a severe complex about my appearance, so I decided to go ahead with double jaw surgery. I started avoiding taking photos, and every time I looked in the mirror, I only saw my flaws, so my stress kept getting worse. I had consultations at two clinics, but Dr. Shin at Iugugang was the most thorough in checking everything, and he said that surgery that another hospital had said could only be done with IVRO would be fully possible with SSRO, so I decided right away to have surgery with Dr. Shin. Day 1 to Day 7 Right after surgery, I was more sleepy and cold than I was in pain. The doctor said that at first all I needed to focus on was breathing properly, and it really turned out that breathing was the most important thing During my 2 nights and 3 days in the hospital, they took care of things right away whenever I needed something, so I didn’t worry too much, but when I got home, the swelling got worse and my nose got blocked, so it became hard to breathe and I got scared I was prescribed a spray for nasal congestion, but Otrivin can cause tolerance, so make sure to buy one that does not cause tolerance too! I could barely breathe through my mouth all night, and the next morning I ran straight to the pharmacy At the one-week mark, I went back to the hospital to have the cheekbone stitches removed and the wafer taken out, and the swelling slowly started to go down. Week 2 There is still a lot of swelling, but it is going down slowly, so I’m getting through each day with anticipation. The bruising that came up during week 1 faded quickly with consistent warm compresses, and now only a little is left on my neck, which seems like it will disappear soon too. I still can’t chew well, so I can’t eat regular meals yet, but after the stitches were removed, it became much easier to eat porridge. I also started mouth-opening exercises, and although it feels a little tight, I’m doing them diligently for a faster recovery. There is still a lot of swelling, but I’m getting excited because the feeling that my mouth has moved back seems to be becoming clearer and clearer! Week 3 There is still some swelling, so my face is still round, but I’m spending each day thinking of myself as someone whose swelling goes down slowly. I pushed the mouth-opening exercises a little too hard and my left jaw hurt, and I realized that overdoing the exercises is not good I met a friend, and they said my face had gotten really much smaller, so I’m becoming more satisfied with the changes. As the swelling goes down, the recessed-mouth look is becoming clearer, and I feel so satisfied every day when I look in the mirror. Putting in the rubber bands is much easier now by hand 1 Month As week 4 came, I started to feel confident that it would be okay to take off my mask My mouth is also opening wider and wider, so brushing my teeth is easier, and the marks inside my mouth caused by the rubber bands are gradually hurting less. I still don’t have sensation in my jaw, so I sometimes spill food when eating, but the sensation in my lips has come back to about 50%. I saw a lot of posts online saying double jaw surgery is really painful, but honestly I haven’t had almost any pain so far! I think it’s thanks to Dr. Shin at Iugugang for doing such a good job with the surgery. Because of the swelling I notice changes day by day, but seeing my face get smaller and my lines become more defined makes me think I’m glad I had double jaw surgery. I’m going to keep taking care of myself diligently and look forward to the rest of the recovery process!
