One Year After Surgery: A Maxillary-Mandibular Surgery Experience Review That Changed Both My Face and My Mind

Hello. I used to have a long-looking jaw when taking photos, and because my front teeth kept wearing down from malocclusion, it became a major concern, so I finally decided to have surgery. Since bimaxillary surgery is a large operation, I was very worried, but while checking several places, I came to know a clinic and chose it because I trusted that the procedure would be done safely. What mattered most was that Director Shin Hee-jin gave very careful consultation and explained the surgical process in detail, which made me feel at ease. Immediately after surgery, I had discomforts such as swelling, dryness, and a sharp, stinging feeling in my neck, but there was almost no pain. As time passed, recovery became gradually noticeable. Swelling and bruising that commonly occur during bimaxillary surgery were present, but starting after suture removal in the second week, I could eat porridge and mashed food, and by the one-month mark I could eat mainly soft foods. After three months passed, I removed the wafers and gradually returned to normal meals, and the sense of satisfaction began to grow each time I looked in the mirror.

At the six-month mark after surgery, swelling had almost fully resolved, and I heard very often that my face looked smaller. My pronunciation and orthodontic treatment also progressed steadily and well. So natural was the result that people would barely know I had surgery if I did not mention it, and my confidence increased a lot. And now, at the one-year point after surgery, orthodontic treatment has entered the final stage, and it truly feels so happy to be able to smile brightly. Previously, because of prognathism and malocclusion, I felt uncomfortable and nervous every time I smiled, but now I actually enjoy smiling and can take photos confidently.

Compared with before and after surgery, the change is clearly perceptible; it feels like that change has altered not only my appearance but also my quality of life and self-esteem. As can be seen in the pre- and post-op comparison photos, there is a clear difference between the six-month and one-year stages, and recovery and change are definitely evident. Now I can freely eat almost all kinds of food, with no side effects or discomfort at all. Looking back, I had many worries and concerns, but I truly think it was the right choice to have surgery with Dr. Shin Hee-jin at the maxillofacial surgery clinic. If there are people troubled by prognathism or malocclusion, I would like to encourage them to find the courage to do it, like me.

This is a surgery review that aims for a natural beauty image.
