Facial Surgery Reviews

Hospital stay review

It’s not really grand enough to call it a hospital stay, just a review of the four days I spent there for surgery and hospitalization. I had surgery on the morning of July 4, and had a square jaw + side cheekbone + back cheekbone procedure. Today is the sixth day. I’ll upload detailed photos little by little~ Right now I only have pre-surgery photos and ones where I’m all puffed up, and since I’m still so swollen, I feel like I looked better before surgery ^^; Day 1 - Surgery day Before surgery, it’s mental pain; after surgery, it’s physical pain. Honestly, I think I overlooked this part too before the operation. The first day is really, really hard. Until I got to the hospital, I kept wondering, ‘Should I just not do it? Or do it?’ and once I put on the surgical gown, I felt like I might start crying for some reason. When I was getting the IV, when they were doing the face design, everything was happening for the first time, so I was nervous and scared about everything. Not long after I lay down on the operating table, I felt the medicine start circulating through my body and I fell asleep. I don’t know how long passed before I woke up, but I felt extremely stuffy. They had ice packs wrapped around my neck and on my eyes too. I squeezed out what little voice I had and raised my hand to look for the nurse. I didn’t really feel like I had to go to the bathroom, but I wanted to get up and move around. Of course, I regretted it as soon as I sat up; After some time, I was moved from the recovery room to the hospital room. I collapsed on the way, but I didn’t even realize I had collapsed;; They told me to take deep breaths, so I did it a couple of times, and only then could I see in front of me, and I could see that I had collapsed (laughing is not really laughing) And then I just stayed lying in the hospital room. After a little while, I started to regain my senses, so I quickly pulled out my phone from the side locker (standing for too long makes me nauseous). I went to the bathroom about three times, and I vomited every time. I think it was because of the general anesthesia, but as always with vomiting, it was extremely miserable. Once, I even went to the bathroom because just lying down was so hard that I wondered if vomiting might make me feel better. The first day really doesn’t go by quickly. Not sleeping well is a given too. I kept waking up and checking the time on my phone, and even checking it was scary. I’d open my eyes every 15 minutes and it was killing me. Day 2 - Drain removal Around 6:30 in the morning, the lights in the hospital corridor turned on and other patients started coming out. Around 7:30, rice porridge was served for breakfast. I had fasted since midnight the night before surgery, and on the day of surgery I only had one glass of water, but I didn’t really feel like eating. It was enough to make me think, ‘Do I really have to eat in this situation?’ I ate the porridge, took my medicine, and even did a gargle for the first time, but since I had to walk to the bathroom, that was rough too. I just wanted to lie down. Before the afternoon, the nurse removed the drain that had been placed in the upper tooth area. I thought they weren’t going to remove the blood hose thing yet, but apparently that was the next day By afternoon, I felt a bit better. No more vomiting, and now I could watch TV and text. But maybe because I’d been lying down too long, my tailbone, lower back, shoulders, and neck all hurt so much;;; So I slowly walked around the corridor, tapped my back, and did neck exercises. Around 11:30, I was about to sleep, and then I got hungry. That means I was feeling a lot better When I was admitted, I brought in two yogurts and a big bottle of yogurt drink. From this day on, I started eating small amounts of things besides porridge. Still hungry though;ㅅ; Day 3 - Blood hose removal I felt like I slept really well in the morning. I didn’t wake up even once in the middle, and when I checked the time it was 6:55. (Those who know, know: you think, ‘Ah, it must barely be around 3 o’clock,’ and then it feels like 7 a.m.!) Having the blood hose in itself wasn’t painful, but it was extremely in the way. Because of it, my lips kept getting hurt too. Every time I looked at the hose, it somehow felt even more painful. Honestly, until this day I tried not to look in the mirror whenever possible. If it were called Shrek, at least it would be cute, but this is just.. My lips were also swollen because of the blood hose, so it looked even more grotesque. As soon as I finished breakfast, I asked the nurse to take it out I was lying on the operating table while the nurse removed it, and because there had been so much talk about the blood hose, I was shaking terribly. To start with the conclusion, the right side didn’t hurt, but the left side did. On the left, the hose seemed to be inserted deeper, so it was pulled a couple of times. I could feel something long sliding out from the cheek below my ear. It wasn’t a pain that made me feel like I’d die immediately, but it definitely wasn’t nothing;ㅅ; After removing the hose, the nurse gave me a new hospital gown. I didn’t know it, but the top was very dirty>_< After changing clothes, I muttered, ‘Ah, this hurts,’ and slept for another 3 hours They said the mask would be removed tomorrow, so I walked around the corridor a lot to reduce swelling, since there was that to prepare for and I would be discharged soon. I even stood while watching TV with another patient in the living room(?). Day 4 - Mask removal, swelling laser, consultation with the director, discharge Maybe because I had a cold coming on, when I woke up in the morning I didn’t feel well. I was dizzy too. Even after breakfast the nurse didn’t come, so I removed the mask myself. A little later, the nurse came and peeled the tape off my face. I got a towel and went into the shower room to wash. It had been a long time since I’d washed my face, and it was so swollen, and it tingled when touched, so it was hard to wipe. On top of that, maybe because I was coming down with a cold, or maybe because I’d been eating poorly for four days, showering was very hard. I had to crouch down several times. Around 12 p.m., I met the director and talked about how the surgery went. They showed me the cut bone inside an envelope;; it was smaller than I expected. They said, ‘You went through a lot, and the surgery went well-’ and I was so grateful that tears welled up Then I changed clothes, came out, and was discharged by limousine. Even if I’d showered, I still looked like a wreck, but being driven was nice:) Day 5 - Stitches removed I went to the hospital in the afternoon. I got another swelling laser treatment. I’m not sure if it helped, though I still didn’t have much energy, so walking there was absolutely exhausting. If I had to go up the stairs, I was gasping for air. And today is the sixth day. They told me to sleep wearing the mask at night. Actually, if you take the mask off and live through the day, the swelling goes down a lot, but the moment you put the mask on, it swells back up until morning, so I wondered why I had to wear it- but after trying it last night, I understood. It feels like something is holding everything tightly in place. They said last night was also brutally hot, but I didn’t feel stuffy or anything while sleeping. It may differ from person to person though^^ Ah, my throat didn’t hurt either. The director said my throat would hurt a lot, like when you have a cold, but it wasn’t like that. Instead, I kept spitting out saliva mixed with blood until I used up a whole roll of tissue. Maybe it was because I have some nasal issues too, but that only happened on the day of surgery~ It’s only been a few days since my surgery, but for those about to have surgery, please steel your mind. The first day is much harder than you’d expect. Of course, I couldn’t reverse it, so I deliberately tried not to think things like regretting it or wanting to go back, but it’s very stuffy and miserable. Also, bring things like plain yogurt (if it has pieces in it, it’s hard to chew and you end up just swallowing it, which also hurts your throat.) or orange juice. They gave me rice porridge and a glass of orange juice together, and the juice was cool and really nice. At first I left the porridge and drank only the juice up completely~ Of course, if you ask the nurse to buy porridge from the porridge shop, they’ll buy it for you, and if you ask for more, they’ll give you more, but somehow I couldn’t eat much at once, and the shop porridge was expensive too; This ended up being a longer post than I expected. Thanks for reading my rambling write-up, and I hope it helps those who are about to have surgery or are planning to in the future.
