Since middle school, I was really stressed because of my protruding lower jaw..!! I knew early on that it would be difficult to fix with simple orthodontic treatment alone, and people around me also often said I needed double-jaw surgery. Even after becoming an adult, I only kept thinking about it every year, and then I decided on double-jaw surgery because I felt I shouldn’t put it off any longer. I went for consultations at about three well-known hospitals, and among them, Director Kim Jong-yoon at the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic examined me the most thoroughly! Not only that, he accurately understood the image I wanted, and I trusted him not only for solving functional issues but also for the aesthetic aspect!!! In particular, I liked that there was an orthodontics department inside the hospital, so they took dental impressions right away on the consultation day and handled everything very systematically. The fact that I could also receive post-surgery orthodontic treatment in one place was a major advantage. Right after surgery, of course there was swelling and discomfort, but as time passed I could feel the swelling gradually going down, and every time I looked in the mirror, I was very satisfied seeing my face become more and more natural. I could eat soft foods pretty well, and I adapted quickly to changes in sensation around my mouth!! I also worked hard on mouth-opening exercises whenever I could. After one month and two months passed, most of the major swelling was almost gone, and what remained slightly around the cheeks or jaw just felt a little plump, with no foreign feeling! My mouth also opens well enough to fit four fingers, and I recovered enough to chew meat without difficulty!! I can eat normal food well, and as my face keeps becoming more natural, I feel like I’m recovering differently day by day haha Recently, a lot of the swelling has gone down, so I’m eating foods I’d wanted to eat for a long time as much as I want, and now I’m at the point where I can’t tell if I’ve gained weight or if it’s swelling lol. As the director said, residual swelling can remain from 6 months to even 1 year, so I’m still trusting the process and waiting. I have no sensory abnormalities at all, and I’m also managing my weight while gradually exercising! And now I’m passing the 6-month mark after surgery!! I’m also undergoing orthodontic treatment after surgery, and I’m becoming increasingly satisfied functionally as well. People around me also often tell me it looks natural and turned out well, so I feel even prouder!! At first I was scared and had many concerns, but now I’m so satisfied with the change that I think I should have done it sooner. As time passes, my satisfaction is growing both aesthetically and functionally. Once again, thank you, Director Kim Jong-yoon!
