Because of my genetic underbite, I had concerns about my jaw from a young age, and with my parents' encouragement I decided to undergo double-jaw surgery. After deciding on the surgery, I started looking for a hospital and ended up having a consultation at Yi Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. During the consultation, Director Kim Jongyoon carefully examined my condition and explained the surgery, and I felt a sense of professionalism and trust, which led me to decide on the surgery.Immediately after the surgery, my face was very swollen and even drinking water or taking medicine was difficult because of the pressure around my nose and throat. Until day 2 to 3, a lot of the swelling remained, and I was careful even moving my mouth, so I mainly ate nutritional drinks.Still, day by day, drinking water and taking medicine gradually became easier, and the feeling of pressure slowly improved. From day 4, the swelling started to go down a little bit. The hardest part was not being able to eat whatever I wanted, but as the days went by, the range of jaw movement increased. The swelling and bruising around my neck and ears also gradually went down, and breathing became much easier. Personally, if it was humid or too cold, the discomfort got worse, so I used the air-conditioner's dehumidifying mode often, and it helped more than I expected. On days 5 to 6, as the facial swelling gradually settled, daily life became much more comfortable. I was careful not to get the bandages wet when washing my hair, and I slowly got used to the nutritional drinks I had been drinking several of each day. I sometimes ate rice porridge, but nutritional meals were still the most comfortable, and even to keep up with my medicine properly, I tried not to skip meals. On day 7, I finally removed the bandages. After soaking them well in water and peeling them off, they came off more easily than I expected, and after that showering and washing my hair became much easier too. Over the week, the swelling also noticeably decreased, so compared to right after surgery, I could clearly feel that I was recovering. There was still swelling around my face, but as time passed, my face line started to become visible little by little.By week 2, the severe swelling had gone down a lot, and from the outside my face looked only a little puffy. Since I kept drinking Newcare, I really missed regular food and waited until I could start eating soft foods like steamed egg little by little. In particular, I really wanted braised beef shank jjamppong, and I kept thinking that once I recovered, it would be the first thing I ate. From week 3 onward, the swelling was visibly going down even more, and the discomfort I felt in daily life was greatly reduced. I ate soft foods like porridge and steamed egg more often, and moving my jaw became easier than before, so I really felt that I was recovering. Now it's been about a month since the surgery, and most of the major swelling is gone and my face has become much more natural. Jaw exercises are not especially burdensome, and meals are much easier compared to the early days after surgery. Most of all, the underbite that had bothered me for so long has improved, and the overall balance of my face has changed, which makes me very satisfied. There is still some residual swelling and I'm not fully recovered yet, but seeing the changes directly over the past month makes me think I made the right decision to have the surgery. I'm looking forward to how my face line will settle as the swelling goes down further, and once I recover a little more, I think I'll finally be able to eat the foods I've been craving one by one with ease.
