Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

I had double jaw surgery for underbite and facial asymmetry

Because of my underbite and facial asymmetry, I used to feel stressed every time I took photos or videos. One of the things I enjoy most in life is taking photos and dressing up, so I think that made it even more stressful. So after going to consultations here and there, I ended up having double jaw surgery and two types of contouring surgery (square jaw + chin) at Yi Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, where the doctor had great experience and many good reviews. During the consultation, the doctor said I would improve compared to before, and in reality I did improve. [Day 1] The doctor told me it would hurt and be harder than anything I could imagine. I was a little scared, but once the surgery was over, it wasn’t as painful as I had thought. It didn’t feel like I was going to die from having trouble breathing or anything like that; it was just uncomfortable. In fact, the antibiotic injection hurt the most, and being bored was the hardest part. I wasn’t supposed to fall asleep before 8 p.m., but I couldn’t even bring myself to look at my phone, and that was miserable. The nurse who stayed up all night caring for me said people usually get nausea or a feeling of heat, but I was lucky not to have those symptoms. She also said today would be the hardest day and tomorrow would be much better, which comforted me a lot. [Day 2] It became much easier because they removed the urine bag, mouth tube, blood pressure monitor, heart rate monitor, and so on. The heart monitor had been ringing all night and was noisy, but once it was removed, my quality of life improved. And they removed the compression band, so I saw myself after surgery for the first time. I felt happy because my chin seemed shorter than before I definitely felt much better than on day 1. [Day 3] I was discharged at 10 a.m., came home, and kept alternating compression banding and cold compresses. My chin was uncomfortable, but I think it was manageable. I had no appetite, so I barely ate, and spent the whole day lying down or taking a light walk. More than pain or difficulty, the day was spent obsessing over my very puffy face and wondering when the swelling would go down. [Days 4-7] The swelling was gradually going down, and I could drink water and take medicine without a syringe. It didn’t seem very painful, and aside from my throat feeling scratchy when I woke up, I was okay. I spent the whole day just with the compression band, cold compresses, and walking. [Weeks 1-2] I can feel the swelling gradually going down. I still can’t chew anything, so I’m just drinking and passing the time. [Weeks 2-4] I have to wear the wafer except when eating, but I can eat now. I shouldn’t chew anything hard, but if I just swallow it down, I can eat most things. Still, my mouth doesn’t open very wide, so that part is a little inconvenient when eating The swelling is going down a lot too. I do feel a bit strange, but compared to the beginning, it’s definitely better. I’m really grateful to Dr. Lee Seok-jae for doing the surgery so well!
