(For reference, there was absolutely no discount condition tied to writing this review. I am writing it honestly because I wanted to express my gratitude to the doctor and because I hope it may help patients in difficult situations like mine.)
I am a man, and I will write about the 10-year story of my rhinoplasty. The first surgery was at a famous private clinic in Apgujeong. The bridge was silicone, and the tip was done with ear cartilage and septal cartilage using septal extension. For a few months after surgery, the shape and function seemed more or less okay. But as time passed, the tip gradually drooped into a beak-like shape, and I kept having persistent nasal obstruction that made it hard to breathe through my nose, along with subtle headaches. (A dull, foggy headache, not a stabbing pain.) At the time, not knowing these were side effects of septal extension, I kept taking rhinitis medicine prescribed by an ENT clinic. As my condition kept getting worse, about 3 years and 6 months after the first surgery, the tip swelled and the skin at the tip became necrotic.
So the second surgery was at a famous private clinic near Gangnam Station. The bridge was reconstructed with autologous dermis, and the tip was done again with septal extension using ear cartilage. Strangely enough, the same pattern reappeared: the beak-like drooping tip, nasal obstruction, and subtle headaches. From then on, about 2 years after the second surgery, while I was looking for information and wondering whether the root cause might be rhinoplasty itself, I happened to find Dr. Hwang Se-hui's blog and read the related posts carefully before going for a consultation.
Having already had consultations at more than 20 places, my consultation with Dr. Hwang was a fresh shock. Up until then, every consultation had lasted less than 10 minutes, and all I got was one-way communication like, 'Just trust me and follow me,' with no detailed explanation about the surgery. Dr. Hwang's consultation was two-way communication, where I got detailed answers about why the functional problems and tip drooping were happening, how those problems could be solved, and other aesthetic concerns. There was also no same-day booking pressure or cash-payment pressure at all. Those points gave me strong trust, and I went ahead with the third surgery. Every time I came in for follow-up, he treated me kindly and responsibly, just as he had before surgery.
As a result of the third surgery, the nasal obstruction and subtle headaches disappeared, and aesthetically it turned out much more refined than before. Even now, 3 years later, it blends naturally with the other parts of my face, and I am extremely satisfied.
I came back here after a long time to look up information about hair transplantation, and I felt it was only right to leave a note of thanks to Dr. Hwang here as well. I am truly grateful to Dr. Hwang, and I recommend that patients experiencing side effects like me, especially beak-like tip drooping, nasal obstruction, and headaches, at least go for a consultation.
