Past surgical history: About 10 years ago, I had rhinoplasty at a plastic surgery clinic somewhere in Busan, using silicone on the nasal bridge and an unknown material on the nasal tip. After surgery, there were no signs that autologous cartilage had been used, and when I asked the doctor, they said donated costal cartilage had been used for the nasal tip. I was anxious because I knew donated costal cartilage is usually used in revision surgery, but I lived without major problems after the surgery.
Symptoms and condition that occurred: Recently, I suddenly developed bruising on the nasal bridge, and since I had not experienced any major impact, I judged it to be a silicone side effect and began looking for a plastic surgery clinic specializing in nose removal. After the first surgery, I had a feeling that my nose was slightly crooked, but at the time, the surgeon explained that if silicone is used to raise the nasal bridge when the original nose is crooked, it can look that way. Later, several doctors commonly gave the opinion that the surgery seemed to have been performed mechanically without correction. My nose was a difficult shape because the alar area was large, it was a bulbous nose, and the nasal bridge was not high, but I thought the bridge height was not very important as long as only the nostril wings were reduced. However, the surgeon said that to create the image I wanted, some nasal bridge height had to be added and the nasal tip had to be tied and lifted, so I trusted them and proceeded with surgery. A few years ago, I had a large pimple on my nasal tip, but I did not know it was a side effect and received an anti-inflammatory injection at a dermatology clinic, leaving an indented scar on the nasal tip.
Consultation review: I am not sure whether the hospitals commonly called the “top 3” are the same as the ones I understood, but if I write them by initials, I visited GYS, CM, and SSY plastic surgery clinics over 3 days in the order I visited them. Among these, I ultimately proceeded with surgery at one.
Reason for choosing: First, I carefully looked over the director’s background before going. Even in the consultation reviews, they were doctors with trustworthy backgrounds, and decisively, they accurately understood my reason for surgery, grasped my inflammation and anxiety well, and comforted me. They said they would do their best so that what had happened until now would never happen again, showed confidence, and explained that they had a lot of clinical experience. They also said that after surgery, the current shape of my nose would not change greatly, so I trusted them and chose them. Since all discussions related to the surgery were held with the operating surgeon, I trusted them and decided on surgery.
Surgical details: Full removal - removal of nasal bridge silicone, removal (?) of donated costal cartilage and septum from the nasal tip, and autologous dermal grafting to the nasal tip were performed. After surgery, I was not composed enough to remember exactly what materials were used, so I plan to visit tomorrow and confirm.
Surgery review, day 1: The explanation above became long in order to write this post. I wanted to leave a record of my resolve never again to voluntarily undergo plastic surgery. The surgical process was simpler than I expected. After visiting, I had various tests, paid, waited, then met the operating surgeon again and discussed the consent form and surgical direction. I entered the operating room, had hair removal inside the nose, then fell asleep. After I came to, I was supported to the recovery room, spent time there, and then went home with my guardian. At this point, it would be good for the guardian to pick up the medication and purchase gauze and taping supplies.
On day 1, gauze was inside both nostrils, with taping and a soft splint on the nasal bridge, and gauze supporting the nasal tip. Because nosebleed and nasal discharge kept coming out mixed together, I had to change the gauze often. I had to breathe through my mouth, so my mouth dried out and I had to drink water frequently. Swelling and bruising are still almost absent, and just in case, I ordered pumpkin juice and pumpkin-red bean tea, which I plan to start drinking tomorrow. There was almost no pain, and I did not have the feeling I had during my first surgery of my facial muscles being pulled toward my nose; only the sutured area stings slightly. The most uncomfortable things right now are breathing through my mouth and the gauze getting damp.
I meant to leave a short review, but it became long. From now on, I plan to record my symptoms when I can, from day 2 to day 7 and even afterward.
Everyone, please stay healthy!
