I started wearing glasses when I was 10, and I heard that vision correction surgery is best after the eyes have fully matured, after age 25. So I prepared thinking that if I didn’t do it at this timing, I wouldn’t be able to. I really worked hard researching online and in person, and studied up as I prepared.
Before LASEK, my vision was left -6.00 and right -6.25, with astigmatism -0.50 in each eye. The average corneal thickness is around 520, but mine was left 565 and right 580. The average pupil size in a dark room is 4-6 mm, but mine was left 5.4 and right 5.2, so smaller than average. Because my corneas were thick, my intraocular pressure was a bit higher than average, but they said that can happen. They said my eyes were the type that would get the best results from vision correction surgery, so after going around to consultations here and there, I chose the place that felt like “this is it!” and had it done. So far, I’ve had no side effects and I’m living really well, as if I found the light. My target vision was 1.0, but from right after recovery until now, 3 years later, I’ve maintained 1.2. Because my pupils are small, I barely have glare or halos. I could see well even when riding around in a car at night.
Personally, I often tell people around me that LASEK is really good, but when they ask where I had it done, I get a bit cautious and always add that they should research carefully...... Mine turned out well, but that may not be the case for people around me. The advantage is that you can see really well, and the disadvantage is also that you can see really well...... After LASEK, even things I don’t really want to see, like bugs, are so visible that it’s occasionally a bit distressing, but still, if someone asked whether I’d do it again, I think I would. The surgical pain was also on the side of being almost nonexistent for LASEK, so I think that’s probably why I feel this way even more......
