I had been very stressed about underarm odor since I was young, so I decided to get the procedure. Sweat gland removal surgery is done through an incision, so I was worried about side effects (after seeing a review about necrosis, I absolutely didn’t want to do it), and MiraDry, which removes sweat glands with a laser, looked okay.
I was young at the time, so I didn’t research much and just got the procedure the same day at the first place I went to for a consultation. So I don’t remember the doctor. I didn’t even know what aftercare was, so I didn’t receive any...
Before MiraDry, I used to apply Driclor, and as a side effect I had some underarm hyperpigmentation. (I thought they were originally dark, but after MiraDry they became skin-colored.)
Procedure review)) First, they applied some solution to my underarms and left it for a few minutes to make me sweat. >>When sweat appears, it turns black, and they look at that color to decide where to target more (but because I had applied Driclor, I didn’t sweat much If you want it done more accurately, don’t apply Driclor or Nosweat Sense for a few days before going.) >>They do anesthesia, and the anesthetic injections were insane, 5-6 shots at once (needles at every vertex of a pentagon or hexagon). It was the worst pain of my life. I got that about 15 times per underarm. >>Then they seriously targeted the underarms with the laser (when they hit an area that wasn’t fully anesthetized, I felt a burning sensation, so I got more anesthetic injections..)
That was the end of the procedure, and they put gauze on my underarms, then I took the subway home. When I tried to sleep that day, I felt pain like my underarms were being seared with fire.. Reviews said it didn’t hurt, but for me it hurt so freaking much. I kept using ice packs to soothe the pain.. I don’t remember clearly, but what’s certain is that after a week it didn’t hurt. And I was so swollen that my arms wouldn’t rest against my waist, like a gym bro. The swelling lasted about 2 weeks.
Effect)) For about 2 weeks to a month, I didn’t sweat at all and stayed dry. After that, just as the hospital explained, if my sweating used to be 100, it remained at 20-30. It definitely became less, and since I stopped applying Driclor, the underarm hyperpigmentation also disappeared. Maybe when the sweat glands were burned, the hair roots were also burned, because the hair became lighter and almost disappeared. Only a few strands remain.
Now, 3 years later, I apply Nosweat Sense about once a month. I don’t apply it in winter.
Side effects)) 1. A faint black vertical line appeared on my underarm.. about 0.5 cm thick. Since black hair grows and sweat comes out only there, it seems the laser wasn’t able to remove all the hair follicles and sweat glands. (After MiraDry, I was too lazy and didn’t have the courage to go back to that hospital, but I think I should visit once and ask.) 2. The anesthetized feeling lasted about 1 year. Maybe because I got so many anesthetic injections, when I touched it, it felt like it wasn’t my skin and had a tingling? sensation for a year. It’s okay now.
I had been very stressed about sweating since I was young, so overall it was a procedure I was fairly satisfied with. It’s a bit hard to recommend, but if you really have a complex and are prepared to endure these kinds of side effects and pain, I recommend it..^^ It is nice that I don’t sweat much.
