It has been 110 days since I had protruding eye surgery.
[Specific surgical method] Because I had scleral show, I had a 2-wall procedure using a method that only broke down the orbital floor.
[Effect] Each eye went in by about 1.5 mm, and when I take a photo from the side so that the opposite eye is just barely visible, it looks as if my nasal bridge has become about 3 mm higher than before. The clinic said my eyes would go in by 3-5 mm, but I think they were probably speaking based on photos taken from the side.
[Side effects] The interpupillary distance became about 2.3 mm closer. It is hard to confirm in photos taken from close range, but when taken from far away (5 m or more), it is clearly visible that they have moved inward by about 2 mm to 2.5 mm. However, it is difficult to make the hospital accept this.
(I will describe it below, but to solve this problem, I had a CT scan at another hospital, and the doctor there briefly explained verbally that “it is observed that the tissues around the eyeballs have gone further inward, and because of that, the eyes may have become closer together.”
To prepare for this kind of side effect, before surgery, please make sure to 1. have your PD distance (interpupillary distance) measured at an ophthalmology clinic, or 2. take photos from a far distance (5 m or more) with something that can serve as a length scale (e.g., a card) attached to your face.)
In any case, what matters to me is not persuading the hospital, but restoring the distance between my eyes back to how it was originally, so I asked the doctor who operated on me whether surgery to widen the interpupillary distance again would be possible. However, the doctor did not seem confident about surgery to widen the interpupillary distance while targeting an exact number (2.5 mm), so I gave up on having additional surgery at that hospital.
I am currently consulting with another hospital to resolve this issue.
This is a surgical review pursuing a natural look.
