Before Cases where only one type of square jaw surgery is done are not that common compared with other facial contouring surgeries, so it was really hard to do research.. And behind-the-ear square jaw surgery even more so.. I kept two noticeable behind-the-ear square jaw clinics in mind, then decided to get a consultation first at the one whose reviews matched my taste, so I booked a consultation. After meeting the director and talking through the consultation, I immediately thought I should do it here, so I only consulted one place and went straight into surgery in one go (The director asked what style I wanted, but I explained it weirdly? so the consultation felt like I was getting scolded a bit It was a little scary.. But it felt like he was saying he needed to know exactly what I wanted to do it accordingly, so it was... okay) He said my square jaw was one thing, but my jaw muscle size was larger than others, so I was also a good? case for doing the surgery behind the ear. He said my nerve line was located very far inward too, so even if I jokingly asked him to make a dog-like jaw and shave down all the bone, he could do it, and that it would be safe for me. Because of cortical bone resection + my large muscle, he said I could also expect a frontal-view effect.
On the day of surgery, the earlier slot was delayed, so I waited almost three hours^^... I was scheduled for 2:30 and arrived at 1:00, but I think I went in when it was almost 4:30.. It was hell.. But right before surgery, the director said he was sorry it was delayed, but he couldn't do the previous surgery carelessly just because of the next surgery, and that made me feel he had responsibility, so I accepted it.
On the day of surgery, aside from a throbbing migraine? and my neck muscles feeling stiff and painful, there was not even 1 bit of discomfort, so I was very satisfied. I lived with a hot pack on for 10 hours a day for the whole month, so by week 1 the bruising was almost gone, and the major swelling was mostly down by week 2, so I could totally cosplay as a regular person..! I seriously highly recommend doing warm compresses for a long, long time... A very hard lumping phenomenon appears where the jaw muscles were, but this also got smaller as I kept compressing, and around a little over a month it was almost gone! Right now it feels like only a tiny bit remains! In a few reviews I saw, bruising and lumping lasted really long, but please live with warm compresses..!!! And move around a lot too!! I went back to work on day 6 after surgery, and since I work sitting down, working with a mask on was no problem. Talking was fine even on the same day, but if I talked for a long time my jaw felt a little stiff. My mouth still doesn't open very wide, so eating is a bit frustrating, but around the one-month mark I can feel it getting somewhat easier. With this much change, I can put up with eating uncomfortably for about a month..! Even before surgery, my face didn't look extremely square-jawed in real life; it was the type that looked emphasized in photos, so friends I hadn't seen in a while didn't notice my change at all But when they saw photos, they were like, huh? What happened to you? It came out that differently in photos! So when I told them I had surgery, only then did they look at my face properly and go, Ah!! Oh, you do look different? A real way to get prettier without it showing..? I have no sensory abnormalities at all, no symmetry issues, and when they showed me the postoperative CT image, the bone image was really pretty too.. Anyway, in every way, it was a surgery I was satisfied with.. I was scared of an intraoral incision and general anesthesia, so I searched for a surgery I could do only behind the ear, and I am very satisfied with the surgical progress, recovery, and scars too..! It feels like there is swelling that is not exactly swelling, like a double chin? under my jaw, but I think this will go away with time, and I will know 100% only after more time passes, but as of now I am satisfied and highly recommend it. Oh, and for reference, after surgery, when I had the stitches behind my ears removed, I saw the director once, and he checked my progress while looking at the CT scan. After that, I haven't seen the director.. Honestly, I didn't have any major discomfort, so I was fine not seeing him. I got radiofrequency treatment 3 times and finished, and I think I'll see the director at the 3-month progress check!
