Eye Re-Surgery

When doing eye compresses, is it okay to press firmly like massaging?

It’s been one week since my non-incisional double eyelid revision surgery. When I went for a follow-up, the director said that to reduce swelling, when doing a warm compress, I should put the pack on and apply pressure like pressing firmly, as if massaging. The conversation ended in just 1 minute, so I couldn’t ask properly

But they also tell you not to rub when washing your face, and I’ve seen some YouTube doctor say that even cold and warm compress packs that you just place on can cause friction and press on the eyes, so you should put them on your forehead... Is it really okay to press firmly?
