To be exact, I had it 9 years ago when the doctor was at another hospital, and now he has opened his own clinic and is practicing there.
I had incisional double-eyelid surgery + lateral canthoplasty.
● Why I chose it / how I got there Looking back now, it was crazy, but I didn’t even search the doctor’s reviews on Naver. At the time, that hospital was just famous on TV. Back then, I don’t think it was easy to find information in the first place.. I just went there, consulted with the coordinator, booked the surgery right away, and scheduled the earliest available doctor. Now that I think about it, it was really weird that the coordinator made me pay before I even saw the surgeon. I mean, I confirmed the surgery without even consulting with the doctor, and when it was time for the actual surgery, I checked the line and only then saw the doctor for the first time. Legendary. This isn’t a complaint about the doctor because it wasn’t the doctor’s decision; the coordinator handled it that way. But thankfully, he was skilled....
● Surgical method I wanted the highest line possible for an incisional method, but they gave me a natural, thin line, and their overall direction is natural-looking results. Since mine was incisional anyway, it became the ultimate in naturalness. Even when my eyes are closed, it doesn’t show much, and over these 9 years, when I’ve told people I’m close to that I had double-eyelid surgery, most of them never expected it and actually said they had no idea and asked me if I really had surgery.
That said, it’s not like my eyes are unattractive or anything. They’re natural, and lately I’ve been wondering whether I should get revision surgery to an in-out or out-line look. People around me keep saying my eyes are pretty now and telling me not to change them.
● Retention / course The surgery was during winter break when I was 16 going on 17, and they did say that by my early 20s the incisional fold might loosen, but it has held up well until now at 25.. Before double-eyelid surgery I had monolids, but sometimes I’d get a very large out-line fold by chance (like a foreigner’s eyes), so maybe that’s why once or a few times a year one side will form as an out-line fold. But I think part of that is also because I keep forcing my eyelids into an out-line fold.
These days, when I wash my face with warm water, the double-eyelid fold forms as an out-line line, and honestly I’m fine whether it forms or not.. Actually, I wanted it to form naturally as an out-line fold, so I make an out-line fold more than 10 times a day, and every time it forms while I’m washing my face, I hold a fierce expression for 5 minutes, but the fold still hasn’t disappeared. Over these 9 years, there were maybe a day or two when the fold loosened after I cried a lot and swelled up, but it came back exactly.
● Lateral canthoplasty To be honest, since my eyes went from looking like a Tibetan fox to having a double eyelid, I never really thought about whether the lateral canthoplasty had turned out well or not, but I do think the outer corner didn’t reattach and the surgery was successful. I didn’t have the D-shaped side effect, but I think I did have pretty severe dry eyes.... It’s been a long time so I can’t remember exactly, but I think the back part of the eye after the lateral canthoplasty felt a little stinging and stuff. Even before surgery, my eye-smile was pretty nice, like a Hahoetal mask ~v~, and after surgery the eye-smile is the same.
● Review after consulting again 9 years later Recently I went back to that clinic to look into my nose and because my eyes seemed sleepy, and since it was my first time seeing my doctor in 9 years, I was really happy. But I guess there were probably other people like me? I was the only one happy, so I felt a little disappointed.
I asked about my eyes looking sleepy and heavy, and they said they’re actually not sleepy eyes at all, and that when I deliberately open them wide and force them open, they look overcorrected, so I should just open them comfortably. Another hospital also said they weren’t sleepy eyes, and at that other hospital they said I was opening my eyes a little strangely... Maybe it’s because my neck hurts and my posture is bad, so I keep lifting my head in a weird way and looking down on people...? Or looking downward...? ,, ? Maybe it’s because of that problem and the dry-eye issue.
When I asked whether reducing fat would help, they said it wasn’t because of too much fat, and that it could be adjusted with ptosis correction, but since they weren’t sleepy eyes, they didn’t recommend it.
I asked whether he hadn’t recommended lower canthoplasty back then, and he said my eyes are the kind that would be okay if I did lower canthoplasty, but my eyes aren’t very large, so I think lower canthoplasty would be nice, but I’m not planning to do it.
● Price Since the hospital back then and the hospital now are different, and the way prices are set is different, it probably doesn’t mean much, but even by today’s cost of living it was expensive, and if you think about it back then 9 years ago, it was really expensive. Of course, plastic surgery was generally expensive then, and back then it was a time when I couldn’t even imagine ads for double-eyelid surgery costing 400,000 to 600,000 won like they do now.
I think the double-eyelid surgery was about 1.8 million won and the lateral canthoplasty was about 1.5 million won. Since there’s no way that price is the current one anyway, I don’t think revealing it would hurt the hospital. In total it was over 3 million won, but thanks to my mother’s active negotiation(?) I got it for the mid-2 million won range, and while writing this I just kept feeling more and more grateful to my mom.......... She supported the choice of me back then, a country bumpkin who knew nothing,, and spent a lot of money, so I’m truly grateful.
When I went for a consultation recently, both the coordinator and the doctor let me ask everything I was curious about, and it was a long consultation, which I liked. Since I had booked the first slot, when I went in there was no one else besides me, so I thought it was quiet, but when I came out, there were 3? 4? people sitting on the waiting chairs right in front of the consultation room, not counting the ones by the front desk, so I felt a little shy and thought to myself, sorry.
Whether I’m writing or speaking, I’m always too wordy and keep thinking I want to speak less and become a more refined person, but it’s really impossible.. I went long-winded again today. ^ ^ ughhh, puff puff,,,,
