Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

One-month review after double jaw surgery plus 3-contour surgery at Yang Yundol Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

After my orthodontic treatment ended, my chin became much more protruded than before. The difference in my face shape also became larger, and the left and right sides were noticeably asymmetrical, so I decided to have surgery because overall improvement was needed. I had double jaw surgery and 3-contour surgery. From the day of surgery until the third day when I was discharged, the swelling was at its worst, and the pain was even worse than I expected, so it was really hard. Still, I was truly grateful that the staff watched over me carefully day and night. After that, even when I went to the hospital at 1 week, 2 weeks, and 1 month, they checked everything carefully. For the first week, I mainly drank things that were easy on the stomach, like Newcare, grain powder drink, Gatorade, rice-free sikhye, and pumpkin juice. Looking back now at the one-month point, the swelling and pain were at their worst during the first week after surgery. Because of the pain, once I fell asleep I could only sleep for 1 to 2 hours, so I kept waking up in the early morning. For about the first 5 days, I had intermittent nosebleeds. For about a week after surgery, my nose was blocked, so breathing was a little uncomfortable, but not enough to be a major concern. When I went to the hospital for the first time a week after surgery, they removed the stitches on my cheekbones. Removing the cheekbone stitches barely felt like anything, and there was no pain at all. From week 1, I started eating soft foods little by little. I ate a lot of soft steamed egg, silken tofu, and castella soaked in milk, since I could open my mouth a bit more. The pain was less than before, so I slept a little better, but if I laughed or coughed, the stitched areas inside my mouth hurt a lot, so I had to be careful. At week 2, I went to the hospital and had the remaining stitches inside my mouth removed. I had seen many reviews saying it wasn't very painful, so I went in expecting that, but it hurt more than I thought. Still, it felt like the swelling wasn't going down for a while, and after the stitches were removed, the swelling went down a lot over the next few days. Because I was so swollen, I started wearing wafers, which I hadn't been able to use before. Week 2 was the week with the biggest changes after surgery. I had been very hungry all along, but from that point I could eat a lot more things that actually counted as food. And a few days after visiting the hospital, I started using hot compresses. Then at the one-month follow-up, I was done with the wafer and had the screws that were embedded in my gums removed. Once the things inside my mouth were gone, I felt much lighter. Recovery is a little slow, but the swelling has gone down a lot compared with before, and the pain has also decreased a lot. Personally, because my recovery has been on the slow side, I still look quite swollen in person and in photos. The swelling in my right cheek has gone down a lot, but the left cheek still has quite a bit left. Still, the chin that had been protruding forward a lot before surgery has moved back a lot, and because the upper jaw came forward, my nasolabial folds disappeared. Since recovery has been slow and the process has been more difficult than expected, I think it is still a little early to say I'm fully satisfied. But I am satisfied that I had the surgery at Yang Yundol. From the consultation stage, they gave detailed advice about the areas that needed improvement to match my face, and during the hospitalization period after surgery, I had a hard time because I couldn't drink the alternative meals well and was suffering from swelling and pain, but they kept checking on me day and night. During later follow-up visits too, I was embarrassed but I cried a lot because of the pain, and I was really grateful that they still checked everything carefully and encouraged me.
