My nostrils were originally large, and the nose width when I smiled was wide, and it got even worse after orthognathic surgery. This clinic advertised a method that was not just a thread-ligating reduction like at other hospitals, but a way of fundamentally repositioning the nostril base to make it narrower, so I went there for a consultation and had the surgery. I was curious about the exact method, but they did not explain it in detail, and judging from the depressed marks on both sides of the nostrils, it seems they also tightened it with threads. It looks like they also made a vertical incision along the bottom inside of the nostril, and I do not know exactly how they did it, but there are wounds toward the upper dome inside the nostril too, though I do not know why. They said recovery to daily life would be fast, but in reality right after surgery my nostrils were pulled together as tightly as possible, so there was no way I could meet anyone bare-faced. After two or three weeks I could go out without makeup, but it still feels awkward for almost three months. When talking or smiling, the nostrils should spread naturally, but because they are fixed from the inside, it does not just feel awkward, it looks serious. In particular, since the start of the nasolabial fold appears to begin below the nostril rather than at the boundary between the nose bridge and nostril, it does not look normal. The surgery itself may be simple, but I think you really have to expect three months before it looks natural. Also, my philtrum was already long, and pulling the nostrils in makes the philtrum look even longer. Of course, after a long time and once it settles, it becomes almost fine. It has been almost 4 years now, and there is no awkwardness. Compared with before surgery, the effect on the width of the nose at rest is about 5 to 10 percent, and when smiling about 20 percent, and so far the effect has lasted. Looking only at the result, I am satisfied, but because of the casual way it was explained and the long recovery period, this is not a surgery to take lightly.
