Hello! Before surgery, my biggest concerns were malocclusion and a protruding lower jaw, and I also felt self-conscious about my long face and facial asymmetry. Because my teeth were misaligned and my bite did not fit properly, eating was uncomfortable, and people occasionally told me that my pronunciation sounded slightly unclear. So I started orthodontic treatment relatively early. My tooth alignment improved to some extent, but I learned that my malocclusion was severe enough that orthodontics alone could not resolve it. In the end, I decided on double-jaw surgery, considering not only my protruding lower jaw and facial asymmetry but also my bite and the everyday discomfort I had experienced. When looking for a hospital, I often heard that if surgery was for malocclusion, it was better to focus on oral and maxillofacial surgery rather than plastic surgery! So I looked up actual surgical cases from various hospitals on YouTube, and [Clinic A] caught my attention haha. Looking at before-and-after cases of protruding lower jaws and malocclusion similar to mine, there were many aspects aligned with what I had in mind. When I went for an in-person consultation, they carefully assessed my current facial condition and dental occlusion based on detailed testing. Dr. Shin Hee-jin explained the surgical process and the changes expected afterward in detail, so I could judge relatively objectively and felt confident in them :) At one month, as much of the major visible swelling subsided, I began to see changes in my face little by little. I also consistently practiced opening my mouth, and my range of mouth opening gradually improved. Other than things I needed to be careful about during recovery, I had no major difficulties in daily life haha. Then, in the second month, my facial contours looked far more natural than before, and people around me said my face looked smaller and my overall impression had changed!!! From then on, I could eat a wider variety of foods, including meat, and my condition had recovered enough for light exercise! By month three, I was comfortable enough that I barely felt any surgery-related inconvenience in daily life. I continued orthodontic treatment to stabilize my bite, ate a variety of foods according to my condition, and exercised consistently, and I could feel my face gradually becoming more natural as the swelling went down! Now, at month four, I still have slight tightness or a stinging sensation around my mouth and a little residual swelling, but I am definitely much more comfortable than in the early stages after surgery. Eating has returned to almost the same level as before surgery; I am only still moderating hard or chewy foods rather than overdoing them. My stamina has almost recovered, so I am exercising, and I do not feel jaw or facial pain while exercising. As in month three, I am currently living daily life without major inconvenience. There is still recovery ahead, but it has gone very smoothly so far, and I am so excited each day to see how things will change as the swelling and bite stabilize further. I look forward to the changes every month!! haha
